Iran War Travel Advisory April 2026

At the time of this writing, the United States and Israel’s war with Iran, which began on February 28, 2026, is far from reaching a peaceful conclusion.

Over 3,300 people have been killed in Iran thus far, and several major governments have issued advisories warning travelers of the dangerous conditions. The U.S. Department of State (DOS) maintains a Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory for Iran, warning that it is an extremely high-risk area, and, while Iran’s airspace is partially reopened, has issued a security update informing U.S. citizens in Iran of how to leave or, if exit is not possible, shelter in place.

In addition, the DOS has advised Americans and those affiliated with the U.S. to exercise extreme caution abroad, particularly in Middle Eastern nations, and to be aware of possible airspace closures disrupting international travel. (Fuel shortages as a result of the war may also severely affect air travel in the coming months.) Finally, please refer to this DOS webpage for security and travel information on several other nations to which travel may pose a safety risk.

Gas, jet fuel, and other energy prices are expected to remain high, and are likely to increase further. Transport of supplies through the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman, through which a significant amount of the world’s oil and other goods flows, remains inconsistent, with violence on the waterway heightening tensions. The costs of other essentials such as food are also expected to increase as a result. Please see our previous article on this subject for more information.

While ceasefire talks are taking place between involved nations, the international situation remains volatile and constantly changing. At the moment, the U.S. federal government has stated that there is “no time frame” for ending the war. Several news outlets are providing live updatesand we will keep you informed of developments that impact you as a traveler and as a visitor to the United States.
