Presidential elections in the United States happen once every four years, and Election Day always takes place on the first Tuesday in November, which this year falls on November 5, 2024.

This election cycle, the candidates for the country’s two major political parties are anticipated to be sitting President Joseph Biden (Democratic Party) and former President Donald Trump (Republican Party) according to the results of the presidential primary elections, in which voters choose their preferred candidates to represent their political party.

The presumptive candidates agreed to two public presidential debates to discuss the issues they intend to address if elected, in the first debates of this nature held between a sitting and former president in U.S. history.

The first debate took place on Thursday, June 27, hosted by CNN and moderated by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, and a recording can be watched here. The second debate is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 10, at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, hosted by ABC News. Reportedly, Linsey Davis and David Muir will serve as moderators.

State governors also serve four-year terms, but the New York gubernatorial election will not take place until 2026. As such, Governor Kathy Hochul will not be on the New York ballot this year.
